Research at the Dept. of Nuclear Medicine
Our research in the domain of oncology ranges from preclinical radiopharmaceutical development to preclinical research in theranostics, especially as applies to the detection and treatment of prostate cancer lesions. Here, our main focus is placed on radiopharmaceuticals targeting the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), which is highly expressed in metastatic prostate cancer.
Other than oncology applications, we place emphasis on neuroscience research, which extends from preclinical studies of brain binding sites to clinical PET investigations in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer`s disease, Parkinson`s disease, and atypical parkinsonian syndromes. Here, in support of disease staging and differential diagnosis, we avail ourselves of sophisticated post-processing tools with the implementation of artificial intelligence and support of novel deep learning algorithms, aiming to classify PET images on the basis of altered metabolic connectivity networks.
